HP Laptop with 24hours battery life

HP has announced that its new EliteBook 6930p configured with an optional ultra-capacity battery can deliver up to 24 hours of battery runtime.

"All-day computing has been the holy grail of notebook computing," said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Notebook Global Business Unit, HP. "With the HP EliteBook 6930p, customers no longer have to worry about their notebook battery running out before their work day is over."

HP batteries benefit from a combination of HP engineering and energy-efficient notebook components such as Intel solid-state hard drives (SSD) and mercury-free LED displays. The HP Illumi-Lite LED display boosts battery run time by up to 4 hours compared to traditional LCD displays, while the Intel SSD provides up to a 7 percent increase in battery life compared to traditional hard drives.

The initial Energy Star-qualified HP EliteBook 6930p configuration weighs in at 4.7 pounds (2.1 kilograms). It features a 14.1-inch diagonal widescreen display and is available with an optional, mercury-free Illumi-Lite LED display.

Built for the corporate road warrior, it features a shock-resistant hard drive, enhanced display panel and spill-resistant keyboard to help defend data against bumps, drops and spills. It was designed to meet the tough MIL-STD 810F military-standard tests that measure levels of environmental reliability and operation at extreme temperatures, while withstanding vibration and high humidity.

The inner magnesium shell of the notebook’s HP DuraCase is equipped with a honeycomb pattern that is thermally bonded to anodized aluminum for a solid construction.

Customers will be able to purchase an HP EliteBook with the new Intel high-performance SSDs in October.

HP hopes to remove all mercury – a material commonly found in notebook screens – from its entire notebook line by the end of 2010.

Asus Launches P552w

Asus has launched a new WinMob handset called the P552w PDA phone. The P552w, running on Window's Mobile 6.1 Professional, is Asus' competition to the likes of the HTC Touch Diamond and other touch screen mobiles that feature snazzy touch screen technology in a 3D form on the display. This handset features Glide (Gester technology) which uses the handset’s touch-responsive user interface to make navigating and performing tasks on the mobile more intuitive and interactive, by scrolling and flipping pages etc. with the touch of your finger. This all seems so familiar.

Some of the widget-like applications are called - Multi-Home, Anytime Launcher, EziPhoto, and EziMusic. The 3.5G (HSDPA) enabled P552w comes equipped with a 624MHz processor and sports GPS and Google integration and a 624MHz CPU. It offers TV streaming, Bluetooth, WLAN, USB and other connectivity standards. Google Maps is also an included feature.

The P552w's navigation also includes a feature known as Asus SMS Location Link. With this exclusive feature, users at two different locations can locate each other easily by sending each other SMS messages. Clicking on the URLs, which are automatically embedded in the sent messages will link the phones up to Google Maps, which will then provide the users with directions on how to get to each other’s positions. The ASUS P552w also features a Google Search Bar on the Today screen that makes it easier to perform online queries.

EziPhoto enables users to flip through their photo collection with their fingertips, akin to how they would with a real album which is nothing we haven’t already seen in various other forms. It also has a Calendar option which organizes and displays the thumbnails of photos users have taken according to the dates in which they were snapped.

EziMusic offers an interactive interface for users to play and manage their music. The P552w also houses applications that enable easy access to web content like RSS newsfeeds, YouTube movies and photos on Flickr.

The HTC Touch may have some serious competition here considering the P552w has a similar styled 3D-ish interface and a host of media features including a 2MP camera. Maybe the pricing (undisclosed) will be a deciding factor; or you can wait for a Tech2 review to allow us to make a calculated decision for you.

India Begins Process to Auction 3G Airwaves

The Indian government is set to begin on Monday the process to e-auction radio frequencies for telecom operators to start third-generation (3G) mobile services across the country and fetch the exchequer over Rs. 400 billion ($10 billion).

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will hold a pre-bid conference in New Delhi with all the potential consultants - one of whom would oversee the process to e-auction spectrum for next generation mobile applications, officials said.

"The process for selecting the agency to manage the e-auction process will be taken up in the pre-bid conference," a senior DoT official told IANS.

The 3G mobile services allow not only much faster communications but also a wide range of applications such as high-speed Internet access, video calls, fast music and video downloads, interactive gaming and global positioning over the Web.

As per schedule, potential service providers will have to submit their technical and financial bids by Sep 22. Those who qualify will need to make a presentation before the DoT Sep 24 - the date when the technical bids will also open, officials said.

The financial bids of qualified bidders will open Sep 26, and the government hopes to finalise the successful players by Sep 30, the officials added.

The state-run Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), which offers its services in Delhi and Mumbai, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) that operates in the rest of the country, have already been allotted frequency spectrum for 3G telephony.

The two companies, however, will have to pay the government amounts equal to the highest qualified bidder among the private players.

In accordance with the recent decision, an auction will also be held for 3G mobile phone providers who use the CDMA technology platform. The earlier plan was to allocate the scarce frequency spectrum on the basis of higher subscriber base.

"The same auctioneer will oversee the e-auction of 3G spectrum for both the CDMA and GSM players," the DoT official said.
