Summary

Rana Vikram Singh lives in a spacious farmhouse with his wife, Laxmi, and two sons. His elder son, Rajesh, is a dedicated police inspector; and his second son, Amar, is a slacker, womanizer, and alcoholic. When an orphaned young woman, Reshma, comes to live with them, Amar gets intimate with her. When Rana comes to know of Amar's interest in Reshma, he warns him that Reshma is not suitable for their family. But Amar maintains an interest and is jealous to see Reshma in the company of Vikas, an employee at the farmhouse. A fight ensues between Vikas and Amar, and Vikas is killed. Amar is now on the run, and Inspector Rajesh has been assigned the task of apprehending him. Only the future will tell if Rajesh will actually apprehend his younger brother, or will he be asked to do otherwise by his parents?

Synopsy
A melodramatic tale of a man with a terminal disease. The story begins with Dr Bhaksar winning a literary prize for his book about a patient called Anand. The rest is flashback. Anand, the title character, is suffering from lymphosarcoma of the intestine. He, however appears to be cheerful on the outside and is determined to extract as much pleasure from his remaining lifespan as is possible. Dr. Bhaskar his physician tends to Anand in his last days. After Anand dies we can however still hear his voice which was recorded on a tape. Dr Bhakser writes a book on his patient and wins a literary prize for it

First of all: i ripped this from the original DVD9 (vob file of 6 GB), and all i can say quality was extremely worse. The movie is from 1985 and is an Eros, so i dont understand why picture quality is extremely low. This rip is almost like the DVD9, and the reason why im posting this is cause its never posted here and its a good movie

In the film, there is this 'Don' Amitabh who is a ruthless smuggler. His only soft spot is Zeenat Aman. 'Don' dies in a police confrontation, and as a co-incidence there is his look-alike a country bumpkin, who has come to a city for the first time and breaks into 'Yeh hai bambai nagariya tu dekh babua'.

Cop Iftekhar spots the duplicate Amitabh and sends him as 'Don' to the notorious gang that is now being monitored by Pran. Zeenat comes to know the difference but she has already fallen in love with Don Duplicate. She joins him and Iftekhar in the guerilla warfare against Pran and his accomplices

GUIDE (1965) is an unsung classic of Hindi cinema, starring major Bollywood star Dev Anand. It's a beautifully-produced modern love story and focuses on what happens when a tourist guide takes up with an ex-dancer who has been abandoned by her archaeologist husband and then guides her career as she becomes a musical star. It has much in common with classic Hollywood romantic musicals in the way it seamlessly incorporates songs and musical numbers into the action and charts the success of its female star. It adds to this rags-to-riches show biz story some characteristic Indian twists which give it greater scope and deeper meaning.

Based on a novel by R.K. Narayan, GUIDE stars Anand as Raju, a glib, well-liked freelance tour guide who takes visitors, Indian and foreign, to historic sites around Delhi and tells them stories--some true, some embellished--about these magnificent places. When Raju takes Rosy (Waheeda Rehman), the ex-dancer, under his wing it causes a rift between him and his mother, friends and co-workers, so he leaves with Rosy and helps her to embark on a career as a singing and dancing performer.

However, as Rosy achieves stardom, Raju falls into bad habits, palling around with the money men, drinking and gambling heavily. Eventually, he is arrested for forging a check and is sent to jail. When he gets out he starts life anew and wanders alone far and wide before winding up in a remote desert village where, thanks to the endless stream of pearls of wisdom he dispenses, he is taken as a holy man. In the midst of a terrible drought, he is compelled to embark on a fast so as not to disappoint the villagers who believe his fast will bring rain. All the while, Rosy and his mother are searching for him.

The film is a re-telling of a popular Indian tale, previously filmed as Loves of a Mughal Prince (1928) and Anarkali (1953). It is loosely based on an episode in the life of the Mughal prince Jahangir. In the movie, the great conqueror Akbar (played by Prithviraj Kapoor) and his Rajput wife, Jodhabai (played by Durga Khote) have but one son, a weak and pleasure-loving prince named Salim (Dilip Kumar). Salim falls in love with Anarkali (Madhubala), a slave and court-dancer. He wants to marry her; his father objects, and throws Anarkali into prison. Anarkali refuses to reject Salim. Salim revolts against his father, is beaten in battle, and sentenced to death. Anarkali buys his life with her own and is condemned to be walled up alive. However, the emperor relents at the last moment.

A retired police officer, Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar) gets two convicts, Jaidev and Veeru (Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra), to capture Gabbar Singh, a bandit chief who has been terrorizing the small village of Ramgarh. Gabbar massacred the Thakur’s entire family (with the exception of his daughter-in-law, who was not at home at the moment) and mutilated the Thakur. Unable to take revenge himself, Thakur Baldev Singh must recruit help and turns to the two ne'er-do-wells.

Once in the village, the cynical young Jaidev and Veeru find themselves growing fond of the villagers, taking pity on their sufferings under dacoit tyranny. Some of the villagers evoke more than fondness: both Veeru and Jai fall in love. Veeru is attracted to Basanti (played by Hema Malini), a feisty young woman who makes her living driving a tanga, or a horse-cart. Jai is drawn to Radha (Jaya Bhaduri), the reclusive widowed daughter-in-law.

Bloody clashes between Jai, Veeru, and the bandits follow. After much sorrow and suffering, the bandits are slain.

The film has two known endings. The original ending (shown in the Eros-released DVD) has Thakur baldev Singh killing Gabbar Singh, trampling him with spike-soled shoes.The Censor Board of India, The C.B.F.C. (Central Board of Film Certification) , however, found the ending unacceptable as they thought that Police officers or even ex-police officers, should not be shown to commit murder. A new ending was filmed, in which the police arrest Gabbar Singh in the nick of time. Several other, smaller, changes were made, as well.

Barring the ending, the two versions of the film are mostly the same. In 2006 the remake Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay will be ready
