Mobiles Coming Soon 2

LG KC910
The KC910 is LG’s first contribution to the 8 MP market. It’s a newer version of the popular Viewty. Feature-wise it’s quite similar to most of the other handsets I’ve included in this roundup. From a large touchscreen to GPS and media/connectivity features, the KC910 is quite media-rich. Hopefully it won’t require the use of a stylus at all.

Google G1

Finally, a much-awaited Google Android-enabled handset in the form of HTC’s Dream (or G1) has seen the light... officially! The design concept is not something I'm too happy with, but I'm eager to see what Android has to offer first-hand. The slide-out QWERTY keypad will surely come in handy, but hopefully the phone will look more attractive in real life than its pictures seem to indicate. If it does I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about the design.

Physical 117 x 55.7 x 17.1 mm, 158g
Display 320 x 480, 65k colors, TFT Touchscreen, 3.2 inc, Accelerometer

Camera 3 megapixel, auto-focus, LED flash
Connectivity USB v2.0, Bluetooth V2.0, Wi-Fi, 3G with HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, GPS

HTC Touch HD

Being a vidiot, I consider this phone THE most important in my list. The reason is obvious, considering the large screen and more importantly the resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The other features are very similar to that of the other handsets included here. I’m eager to see HTC’s TouchFlo live on a screen like this.

Physical 115 x 62.8 x 12 mm, 146g
Display 480 x 800, 65k colors, TFT Touchscreen, 3.8 inc, Accelerometer, TouchFLO 3D
Memory 512MB, MicroSD for external
Media AV player, Voice Recorder, FM radio, TV Out, Reads DivX, Xvid Video, TV Out, 3.5mm earhone socket
Camera 5 megapixel, auto-focus, LED flash, Secondary camera
Connectivity USB v2.0, Bluetooth V2.0, Wi-Fi, 3G with HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, GPS

I know we’ve talked about these handsets very frequently over the last few months, but that’s only because they’re quite cutting-edge by industry standards. These are my choice of mobiles that I'm most looking forward to seeing in India very soon, and I hope to put them through their paces.

This touchscreen handset is Nokia’s attempt at beating the iPhone, and it's been anxiously waiting to launch. The audience, in the meanwhile, has probably bitten off their fingers after chewing though their nails. I’m sure the handset won't be equipped with the kind of features Morgan Freeman’s character had in The Dark Knight, but I’m still looking forward to seeing what it can do. It’s been put into Nokia’s music phone category, so we can expect decent audio.

Samsung INNOV8
Samsung’s 8MP slider phone with an S60 OS is definitely something to look forward to, simply because of the high-resolution camera it comes with. It’s not the first handset to have an 8MP camera (a growing trend these days) but its specs put it in a very high-end category. It comes across as a rather well-equipped media device, but unlike the others in this list, the INNOV8 does not feature a touchscreen display.

Meizu M8

It’s been a while since the Meizu M8 made the tech scene but it’s back now and with some exciting news too. The M8 is apparently due for a launch sometime in December this year and that’s not the only thing that's got me raving. The fact that the Taiwan-based distribution company is also planning on an official Indian launch is what is making this a big deal. It's not like there’s a shortage of i-Killers, but this just happens to be the closest competitor... or was it the HiPhone?

The M8 will make its first official appearance in China and then make its way here. Geek IT, the Taiwanese company has commenced retail operations in India so it’ll be no big deal to bring the phone here.

Some of the specs of the M8 include a 3MP camera, media player, integrated FM radio EDGE support and Bluetooth possibly with an A2DP profile. The handset will also be equipped with a 3.2-inch touch screen LCD and run on a version of Windows CE. There’s no word on 3G support. The M8 has gone through a few changes since it first made an appearance, so we’ll have to wait and see what the actual device is going to be like.
