Panasonic's FX150 and DMC-LX3 Digicams Announced

DMC-LX3

It comes equipped with an ultra-sensitive 1/1.63-inch CCD developed specially for the new model. In the LX3, Panasonic has tried to push toward higher pixel counts. Rather than cramming in the maximum number of pixels possible, it has limited the LX3's 1/1.63-inch CCD to 10.1 megapixels. The result is a CCD that provides a generous amount of space for each pixel while offering superb sensitivity and a wide dynamic range made possible by maximizing the size of the photodiode. Panasonic has also redesigned the peripheral circuits and other components to further minimize noise generation. The CCD in DMC-LX3 can reproduce images shot with the lens set from 24mm to 60mm in any of three aspect ratios; 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9

The LX3 comes with the F2.0 24mm ultra-wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens and offers a Film mode with 6 color types and 3 types of monochrome to choose from.

The LX3 boasts a large 3.0-inch LCD with a 3:2 aspect ratio and high 460,000-dot resolution.

Mumbai to Get Exclusive Site For E-waste

Mumbai, which tops the list in generating the highest amount of electronic waste in the country, is all set to have an exclusive site for dumping e-waste.

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials will be meeting this week to finalize a site exclusively to treat and dump e-waste, MPCB sources said.

Since e-waste management doesn't come directly under the purview of the municipal corporations, MPCB and MMRDA have come forward for this pilot project, the sources said.

A recent study has revealed that Mumbai is not just the leading generator of electronic waste in the country, but also that the rate at which the commercial capital is throwing away electronic goods is far higher than believed so far, the sources said.

The study shows that besides generation of 19,000 tonnes of electronic waste annually - inclusive of computers, televisions, refrigerators and washing machines- Mumbai receives a good amount of it through clandestine imports from the developed world.

The study also indicates that Delhi and adjoining areas are receiving a substantial part of Mumbai's electronic discards, both internal as well as imported, particularly computer printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are too dangerous to be handled in congested areas of Mumbai.

Besides officials of the two organizations, experts on waste management will also attend the meeting, which will dwell on finalizing a site for treating e-waste for the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

MMRDA has also mooted a site for construction and demolition wastes generated through projects implemented by the MMRDA, which is the biggest generator of construction and demolition waste due to its several infrastructure projects.

As there is no separate site for dumping such wastes, the sheer volume of waste generated overburdens the existing landfill sites, the sources said.

Panasonic's FX150 and DMC-LX3 Digicams Announced

Panasonic has introduced two new cameras - the FX150 and the DMC-LX3.

FX150

The FX150 is a 14.7-megapixel model, an addition to the Lumix FX Premium range of digital cameras. It is equipped with a 28mm wide-angle lens and comes with the Venus Engine IV allowing 330 pictures (CIPA) per battery charge.

The bracketing function includes the exposure bracketing available on previous models plus a new color bracketing function that can record color, monochromatic and sepia shots of an image at the same time with a single press of the shutter button. The FX150 also introduces a new multi-exposure function that creates an interesting artistic effect by superimposing up to three consecutively shot images, while the user views the previous image on the monitor.

The FX150 features a 2.7-inch large LCD and can also record original picture data in RAW file format enabling the user to develop the image with the intended effects on it.
